I've renewed my interest in amateur radio. In late December I passed the test to get my General license.
Operating the radio took practice and I had to experiment a lot with the antenna but last night I had my first long distance contact with Chuck in Virginia. Very cool to build it yourself and talk at that distance.
Looking forward to more adventures. I want to do remote operation where I can bring the radio to parks or use while camping.
I have a basic low power radio and I made my own antenna with some transformers and a cheap spool of wire hung into a tree.
As a true GenX'er I blogged about my first HF amature radio contact.
